A grant was finally secured by Gloucester City Council to upgrade the old lighting system at the Folk Museum in Westgate Street, Gloucester. The old lighting track and halogen spotlights had become obsolete and was in need of replacing. Running and maintenance costs were high with the existing lighting load of over 11.5KW costing in the region of £3,100.00 per annum to run.
The solution was to replace the existing lighting track throughout the museum with new three circuit Global track, complete with a PIR movement sensor to turn lights off when an area was unoccupied. The halogen spotlights were replaced with Quartet LED spotlights providing a 1000 lumen light output which could be dimmed individually. Each Quartet LED has an electrical load of 18Watts reducing the electrical load to an approximate 2.02KW, and with the addition of the PIR sensors the annual running cost has been reduced to approximately £400.00 per annum. The Xicato LED module within the Quartet spotlight was specified at 3500 Kelvin to provide a warm light and has a 50,000 hour expected lifetime, guaranteed for 5 years, which has also reduced the overheads on maintenance significantly.
