Total Lighting & Controls were approached by Old Richians RFC to look at improving their training pitch lighting.
The existing floodlights were inadequate, only lighting half the training pitch, and were continually causing a trip at the fuse board. Stadium floodlights and columns were being considered by the club, but the advice we offered was this solution would impose too large a load on the fuse board, and there was no capacity for this.
The solution Total Lighting & Controls offered was to upgrade the existing metal halide floodlights to LED first of all, then install six additional lighting columns at the far end of the training pitch, and two LED floodlights on each. This would provide illuminance to the whole of the training pitch and therefore improve training.
The existing lighting load of 15.34KW was reduced to 7.6KW, saving 50% on their electricity bill. Due to the saving being made Total Lighting & Controls applied for a grant of 35% against the total cost of the installation, which was approved.
